Southwest Florida vacation - Fort Myers & Sanibel Island Beach

I have some friends on the Florida West Coast (or Shouthwest should I say) that invited me and my wife to pay them a visit. They have been couple of times in Boca but we never returned the visit. So, on Memorial Day 2008, we decided to spend couple of days over to the west coast.

Honestly we didn't really expected to find anything more interesting than our Palm Beach area but we went more to see our fiends. We got there on a Saturday afternoon. It seemed like a typical southern community/ town with everybody laid back, everyone out on the ocean to fish, have some sun and drink a beer or two. The drive took about 2 hours and we used I-75 to get there. Obviously the are is not as developed as the Palm Beaches but has great potential. Southwest Florida real estate investments can still be profitable as the land is quite cheap and the area is growing. The beaches are amazing, especially the beach from Fort Myers. There are a lot of teens and I bet is quite cheap to find a place to crash. The Ft Myers beach has a beautiful white sand and virtually no rocks or anything. I was truly impressed.

Now during the Memorial Day we decided to go out on the beach, where else ?!, for a barbecue. We have decided to go to Sanibel Island. The beauty of the island come from it's wilderness. It does resemble with some of the islands from the Keys but it does have on the other hand something of its own. We have stopped on the beach right after we passed the bridge that connects the island with the continent. As expected, we hardly found a place to "camp" but we finally managed. The beach was packed with people. There were many flavors in the air coming from all our barbecue neighbors. We have contributed to the atmosphere with some specific Romanian meat flavors, that blended naturally with the rest.

After we had some beers and enjoyed some steaks we jumped into the ocean. There were a lot of boats out on the ocean that day. It was just a good old plain southern beautiful day.

On our way back to Boca we have realized that Florida has a lot more to offer. We knew we have discovered another possible vacation destination.
